Hi, I'm Joel

I'm a CTO and software engineer with a background in theatre and a passion for football. I love building things, solving problems, and connecting with people. Recently I've rediscovered the importance of "3rd Spaces" - those places that aren't work or home that help us feel more in control of our lives, and can connect us with others, too.

I played college football here in Canada at University of Guelph (go Gryphons!). I'm super happy that my son has also chosen to attend and play football at my alma mater as well, which has helped me to reconnect with some of the folks there and help follow along and support the program.

What I Do For Work

I lead the technical teams at Agility CMS. In my career, I've built web applications using myriad technologies, from c# and dotnet with SQL Server, to React and Next.js with TypeScript. I love sharing what I've learned by teaching and creating videos. I plan to never stop learning, and I've found that AI, while on one hand can be a slop generator, can also be really useful in figuring out how stuff works.

When I'm not coding, you'll find me:

• Watching football (American or Canadian version)
• Rehearsing for a theatre production
• Thinking about leadership and teams
• Writing and reading books
